Seasiders drop to No. 5 in poll
Brigham Young-Hawaii’s five-set loss to PacWest rival Fresno Pacific on Saturday translated to a drop in the AVCA Coaches D-II volleyball poll Monday.
The Seasiders (14-4, 11-1) fell to No. 5 after losing their first home match in 48 contests. The top three teams remained the same, with Tampa No. 1, Minnesota-Duluth No. 2 and Concordia-St. Paul No. 3. Those three were the only teams to beat BYUH prior to last Saturday.

Seasiders tie Fresno Pacific
The BYU-Hawaii men’s soccer team battled back from a two-goal first-half deficit to take a lead against Fresno Pacific on Monday before settling for a 3-3 tie in the Pacific West Conference match at Ramirez Field in Fresno, Calif.
After falling behind in the first half, the Seasiders (6-5-4, 6-1-3 PacWest) rallied with goals by Romy Lakip and Jace Green to tie the Sunbirds (9-4-1, 7-2-1). BYUH took the lead on Pawel Dregan’s goal in the 79th minute. But Fresno Pacific’s Renato Bustamente completed a hat trick in the 88th minute to knot the match again and neither team could score in overtime.

HPU’s Ellis, Boswell earn weekly honors
Hawaii Pacific juniors Erika Ellis and Kelby Boswell earned conference Player of the Week and Defender of the Week honors, respectively.
Ellis, a forward from Waianae via Lanakila Baptist, continued her recent stretch of offensive power with seven points last week. She assisted the first goal in a 2-0 win over Holy Names and recorded a hat trick in a 5-0 win over Dominican. She has logged 13 points in the last five games and ranks third in the PacWest in points per game (1.31).
Boswell, a keeper from Georgetown, Texas, earned her second weekly honor after posting three stellar games to lead HPU to a 2-0-1 record on its Bay Area road trip. She made 14 total saves and recorded two shutouts. She started the week with consecutive shutouts of Holy Names and Dominican, then tied her season high with nine saves against Fresno Pacific. She ranks fourth in the PacWest in goals-against average (1.193), shutouts (3) and saves per game (4.38).
BYUH women fall to Sunbirds
Fresno Pacific broke away early and held off the BYU-Hawaii women’s soccer team in a 3-1 Pacific West Conference win on Monday.
Hannah Coyle opened the scoring in the 13th minute for the Sunbirds (6-6-2, 6-2-2 PacWest) and Jenna Thomason gave Fresno Pacific a 2-0 lead. The Sunbirds added another goal and BYUH (3-12-0, 2-8-0) avoided a shutout with a goal by Rebekah McCarthy in the 80th minute.
