Isles’ favorite footwear gets star treatment in board book
"Slippers in Hawai’i," illustrated by Jamie Meckel Tablason (Beachhouse Publishing, $7.95), shares a tale about the most common footwear of the islands.
Traditional slippers, worn-out versions or princess pink slippers adorned with a bow are just a few of the examples found on the brightly colored pages of this board book.
Colors, opposites and numbers are among the teaching opportunities found within the rhyming couplets.
Reptile pals’ adventures double as learning opportunities for tots
Jon J. Murakami’s mischievous geckos are back in "Gecko One and Gecko Two in Hawai’i" (Beachhouse Publishing, $7.95), a story for toddlers that celebrates how differences can complement friendships.
Gecko One and Gecko Two are opposites who manage to share many adventures. The story is told in catchy rhymes as Gecko One "waits on the shore" while Gecko Two "surfs some more." Gecko One enjoys "veggies on rice" while Gecko Two thinks "meat is nice."
Individuality is emphasized throughout the story for keiki who might just be learning social skills.
This board book is the seventh title in Murakami’s popular gecko series.
