The Coast Guard continued its search for a 67-year-old boater who placed a mayday call from a sinking boat off Kailua-Kona on Thursday.

Ron Ingrahm is believed to have been sailing aboard the 25-foot vessel Malia when it began taking on water at 8:03 a.m. roughly 46 miles west of Kailua-Kona. The vessel was traveling from Molokai to Lanai.

On Friday, a Coast Guard HC-130 airplane crew and MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew searched the area but was unable to locate either Ingrahm or his vessel.

The Coast Guard Cutter Ahi was unable to participate in the search due to severe weather that included winds of up to 35 mph and waves between 8 and 15 feet in height.
