One person is dead after a three-car crash on Kauai Saturday morning.

The crash happened around 10 a.m. on Kaumualii Highway in Kipu.  A Ford pickup truck was heading east near Halfway Bridge and attempted to overtake a Ford Mustang using the eastbound shoulder of the highway, Kauai police said.  While attempting to cut in front of the Mustang, the truck clipped the Mustang’s front, causing the driver of the truck to lose control.  The truck then veered onto the westbound lane of the highway and broadsided a Chevy sedan.

The male driver of the Chevy sedan died from his injuries.

The male driver of the Ford pickup truck was transported to Wilcox Hospital where he was treated and released from his injuries.

The female driver of the Mustang did not require medical attention, police said.
