Canadian woman dies after snorkeling
A visitor from Canada died Tuesday after getting into trouble while snorkeling off Lanai.
Maui County officials said Sandra Jordan, 65, of Sidney, British Columbia, was on a snorkeling boat trip with family at about 10:20 a.m. when she was seen in distress within Manele Small Boat Harbor.
She was assisted back to the boat but became unresponsive, officials said. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation was performed once she was brought onto the boat, and emergency personnel treated her at the harbor dock.
Jordan was transported to Lanai Community Hospital.
An autopsy is pending.
Alaskan swimmer dies at hospital
A 54-year-old Alaska man died Monday after he was reported in distress while swimming off the Waianae Coast.
The man was taken to shore at 1:43 p.m., given cardiopulmonary resuscitation and taken to an area hospital, where he was pronounced dead, police said.
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office identified the swimmer as Patrick Brown Jr. of Alaska.
There were no suspicious circumstances or obvious signs of foul play, police said.
Abuse in front of keiki brings arrests
A woman and man were arrested Monday in separate incidents of abuse in front of their children.
A 43-year-old Hawaii Kai woman allegedly physically abused her 44-year-old estranged husband in the presence of their 13-month-old child around 3 p.m. Monday, police said.
Although the man and woman are divorced, they still live together, police said.
The woman’s bail was set at $1,000.
At about 4:51 p.m., a 32-year-old man allegedly physically abused a 19-year-old woman in the presence of their infant in Honolulu.
The man was arrested at the scene on several outstanding warrants.
Construction worker injured in fall
A man was in serious condition Tuesday morning after falling about 20 feet from scaffolding at Ala Moana Center.
The man, in his 40s, was injured at about 9 a.m. on the Ewa side of the shopping center. Emergency personnel transported him to an emergency room.
The man, a construction worker, suffered head and neck pain and was conscious during his transport to the hospital, said Honolulu Emergency Services spokeswoman Shayne Enright.
