It’s Marcus Mariota day, here and in Pasadena
Don’t forget to watch Hawaii native Marcus Mariota quarterback for the Oregon Ducks in today’s much-anticipated Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif., starting at 12:10 p.m. on ESPN.
The St. Louis School graduate recently was awarded the prestigious Heisman Trophy, as well as a slew of other college football awards, and hopes are high locally that he’ll lead the Ducks to a win that would put them into the first-ever college football championship game, on Jan. 12.
The Ducks first have to get past the Florida State University Seminoles, whose quarterback is the previous Heisman Trophy winner and whose team has won all of its last 29 games. Not a gimme, for sure.
Meanwhile, with the new college football championship apparently proving exceedingly popular, does it seem that all the other, more-than-30 bowl games now pale in significance? Will interest in them fade? It will be interesting to see how college football evolves in the next few years.
