High surf advisory issued for north and west shores
The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for most islands starting Monday afternoon until 6 p.m. Tuesday.
The advisory covers the north- and west-facing shores of Niihau, Kauai, Oahu and Molokai. The north shores of Maui are also included.
Surf along the north shores of the islands is expected to build to 12 to 16 feet starting Monday afternoon and continuing throughout Tuesday.
West-facing shores may see waves from 8 to 12 feet.
Swimmers should expect strong breaking waves and strong currents. Beachgoers are urged to heed advice from Ocean Safety officials and exercise caution.
