Do what you can to avoid the flu
Catching the flu is a real drag, so take every precaution not to succumb — but if you do, don’t drag down others, too.
Hawaii has begun feeling the effects of flu season — and it’s up to all of us to avoid the epidemic levels already reached across the mainland.
Though this year’s flu vaccination is deemed just 23 percent effective, due to noninclusion of a virus strain that’s caused much of the mainland flu this winter, it’s still protection. So especially for the elderly, tots under age 5 and other frail folks, a flu shot is advised.
For all, make it a habit to wash hands well with soap and water — but if you do come down with the flu, stay home to prevent its spread.
A great idea for someone else to pay for
More than a mere backdrop, Kauai has virtually co-starred in movies, TV shows, commercials and music videos over the years.
So it makes sense to expand the island’s reputation as a showbiz hub by building the Kaua‘i Creative Technology Center. The proposed studio could be used by professionals working on movies and other projects, as well as students who are interested in careers in the technical side of the creative arts.
It would be best if private money funded this venture, though. Goodness knows there’s plenty of that in Hollywood.
