Steak restaurant owes back wages to employees

Buzz’s Original Steak House must return $150,000 in tips and other back wages to 109 employees of its Kailua and Pearl City locations.

An investigation by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Wage and Hour Division found that cash wages of tipped employees were reduced below the minimum wage of $7.25 per hour, and that servers were illegally required to pay a portion of their tips to managers.

According to a labor department statement, the investigation found the violations of the Fair Labor Standards Act during a two year period.
