The trailer is out for Cameron Crowe‘s new movie "Aloha," and while its plot may focus on a disgraced military contractor played by Oscar nominee Bradley Cooper, the visuals scream Hawaii, where the story is set.

From Chinatown and the Hawaii Theatre to the North Shore, Crowe took advantage of Oahu’s scenic locations. His characters even wear maile lei. And if you look closely at the trailer, you get a bit of the island’s less glamorous spots, which may give the film a locals-only layer of authenticity.

Crowe shot the film in 2013, spending 63 days in Hawaii, and used the islands as a stand-in for India and Afghanistan, according to the Honolulu Film Office.

Cooper, currently starring in "American Sniper," is joined by Rachel McAdams, Emma Stone, Bill Murray (in a haku lei), Alec Baldwin and John Krasinski.

He plays a military contractor who returns to the site of one of his greatest career triumphs: a U.S. space program in Hawaii. While in the islands, he reconnects with a lost love, played by McAdams, and at the same time falls hard for the Air Force handler (Stone) assigned to him.

The film was referred to as "The Untitled Cameron Crowe Project" until last week when Columbia Pictures announced the official name.

It opens May 29.
