Parking and rental rates at Aloha Stadium could go up as soon as this football season as the Aloha Stadium Authority considers new pricing structures.
Authority members said they want to bring the stadium’s prices in line with other venues as well as keep pace with rising expenses required to operate the 40-year-old facility.
A proposal could emerge from the authority’s March meeting.
Any proposal would have to go before a public hearing and several levels of review before it could be enacted.
The authority has been looking at the possibility of a graduated rise in the automobile fee to $7 from $5, with additional rises to $8 in 2017 and $9 in 2019.
The stadium’s last price hike was 2010.
The University of Hawaii currently charges $6 for on-campus events. Blaisdell Center charges $6 to $7.
In addition, a plan outlined this week would have raised the automobile fee for professional sports events and concerts with admission charges — other than Hawaiian cultural and music events — at Aloha Stadium to $15 from $10, with the rate going to $16 beginning July 1, 2017 and $17 as of July 1, 2019.
The plan called for a $5 rise to $30 for passenger bus, limousine or truck (other than pickups). All those suggestions were sent back to committee for further study.
High schools and UH currently do not pay rental for use of Aloha Stadium but are charged for operating costs including cleanup, ushers and security.
