Ex-teacher gets jail for sex assault of student

A state judge ordered former Sacred Hearts Academy teacher William Plourde to spend a year in jail for sexually assaulting one of his students.

Plourde, 55, pleaded guilty last December to seven counts of third-degree sexual assault against a 15-year-old girl. The sexual assaults happened in the summer of 2013 at the school and in his car outside the girl’s home.

Circuit Judge Glenn Kim sentenced Plourde this morning to five  years of probation and ordered him to spend the first year of it behind bars.

Plourde will get credit for the one month he was in custody following his Aug. 7, 2013, arrest. He has until Thursday morning to turn himself in to begin serving the rest of the jail term.
