The deadline for applications to fill vacancies on the state Ethics and Campaign Spending commissions has been extended to March 31.
There is one vacancy on the Ethics Commission, and two on the Campaign Spending Commission.
Members of both commissions serve without pay and may not hold any other public office.
The five-member Ethics Commission handles issues involving legislators, registered lobbyists and state employees. Members are prohibited by the state Constitution "from taking an active part in political management or political campaigns."
Campaign Spending Commission members scrutinize election contributions and expenditures, and are not allowed to participate in political campaigns or contribute to candidates or political committees.
The state Judicial Council will submit a list of nominees to Gov. David Ige for consideration of appointments.
Applications can be submitted along with a resume and three letters of recommendation (attesting to the applicant’s character and integrity), and should be postmarked by March 31 to Judicial Council, Hawaii Supreme Court, 417 S. King St., Second Floor, Honolulu, HI 96813-2902.
Applications are available on the Hawaii Judiciary website or by calling the Judicial Council at 539-4702.
