Saturday’s traditional senior float and the accompanying festivities won’t be the aloha appearance at Duke Kahanamoku Aquatic Complex for Caity Lopes da Silva and Rainbow Wahine classmates Emily Carr and Zoe Respondek.
The sixth-ranked Wahine (12-7, 1-1 Big West) face UC Santa Barbara (12-13, 1-1) in their regular-season home finale at 6 p.m. Saturday to close a seven-match homestand (including two exhibitions). Although Saturday’s meeting could be a swing match in the Big West race, the stakes will be higher when the Wahine return to DKAC April 24-26 to host the Big West Championships.
Lopes da Silva, a New Zealand product, leads the senior class with 16 goals — tied for fourth on the team — and has scored in four of UH’s last five regular-season matches. She also scored in UH’s 11-10 exhibition win over the Brazilian national team last Saturday.
Carr, from Australia, enters senior night with 12 goals this season. Respondek, who transferred from Maryland after her freshman year, has eight and all three seniors were honorable mention All-Big West picks last season.
