Two Oahu Community Correctional Center inmates on work furlough passes were arrested Tuesday on suspicion of kidnapping, robbery and drug offenses, as police also recaptured a missing work furlough inmate.
Robert Gibson, 31, and Kalai Tavares, 34, were supposed to return to the prison Tuesday at 5 p.m. from work furlough.
But police arrested the pair at King and Victoria streets near Thomas Square at 5:25 p.m. in connection with allegedly kidnapping four people: three women, ages 48, 55, and 56, and a 57-year-old man.
The two also were arrested on suspicion of second-degree robbery, and impersonating a law enforcement officer.
Police said a 31-year-old woman also was arrested with the two inmates on an outstanding court warrant.
Officers also arrested Tavares for alleged possession of illegal drugs.
Meanwhile, missing OCCC inmate William Williams, 51, is back in custody after being caught Tuesday in Kaneohe.
Williams failed to return to the Laumaka Work Furlough Center at 4:30 a.m. Monday.
He is serving time for theft and violating a protective order. Williams’ next parole hearing was scheduled for October, but he could get additional prison time if he is convicted of escape.
Gibson was in prison for second-degree theft and first-degree burglary. His next parole hearing was scheduled for June.
Tavares was serving time for kidnapping. He was supposed to face the parole board this month.
