Maui firefighters work to put out brushfire near Kahikinui Homesteads
Maui firefighters are working to contain a brushfire near Kahikinui Homesteads on the southern slops of Haleakala.
Fire officials said crews began fighting the fire at 12:45 p.m. Wednesday afternoon near mile marker 22 of Piilani Hwy., and that approximately two acres were found burning with winds blowing 20-25 mph.
Makawao and Kula fire engines, two water tankers and Air 1 were working to bring the fire under control on the mauka side of the highway.
