Tour buses won’t be allowed inside the National Memorial Cemetery of the Pacific during Memorial Day weekend.
The cemetery says the restriction is needed to efficiently control the flow of traffic and visitors. It’s also needed to preserve the spiritual integrity of ceremonies being held there.
Tour buses will be allowed back in the cemetery at 8 a.m. Tuesday.
Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell will host a Memorial Day ceremony at 8:30 a.m. Monday. The ceremony is open to the public.
Bus service to Punchbowl will be available from the Alapai Transit Center.
Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts will place 38,000 lei on grave markers on Sunday.
Mountain View man arrested in father’s death
An 18-year-old Mountain View man was in custody Saturday in connection with the death of his father in Puna.
Police said officers responded to a domestic incident at a Fern Acres home about 9:15 a.m. Saturday and found medics treating an unconscious 47-year-old man.
The man was taken to Hilo Medical Center, where he died.
Police arrested the man’s son on suspicion of second-degree murder.

Maui hiker dies after wave pulls her into ocean
A 32-year-old Wailuku woman died after a wave swept her into the waters of La Perouse Bay while she was hiking with a friend in Makena, Maui police reported.
The woman, identified as Chana Mari Ichinotsubo, had been taking photographs with her friend Friday evening, the Maui County Police Department reported.
After she was swept into the ocean, her friend pulled her to shore and performed CPR, then called for help at about 8:16 p.m., police said.
First responders found the victim unresponsive and continued lifesaving efforts, but she died at the scene.
Public warned to stay out of Honokahua Bay
Rain runoff has prompted the state Clean Water Branch to declare a brown-water advisory for Honokahua Bay on Maui.
The public is advised to stay out of the water, which could contain sewage, pesticides and dead animals that could attract sharks.
