Iconic Kalihi restaurant to close its doors
Kenny’s restaurant will serve its last Cheesy-Gals, Suzie-Qs and Oxtail soup on Sunday, July 5, according to employees, who are sharing the news with customers.
The iconic, old-timey diner open since 1966 at Kamehameha Shopping Center, as well as the Kenny’s Express location at the Royal Hawaiian Center food court, will close so owner John Fujieki can concentrate on his health. He suffered a series of serious health problems earlier this year, leading him to the decision to close the restaurants.
The Waikiki location will close at the end of the day July 4.
The center’s owners, a hui of entities including the Fujieki family, leases the land from Kamehameha Schools.
