A 52-year-old hiker died after falling 200 feet between the first and second peaks of Mount Olomana Saturday morning, according to Emergency Medical Services.
The hiker was found unconscious with no pulse and was not breathing, Honolulu Fire Department spokesman Kendall Ching said.
Firefighters received a call at 11:47 a.m. and the first of four companies and HFD’s helicopter arrived at 11:56 a.m. The hiker was airlifted to EMS, Ching said.
Earlier, at 11:30 a.m., firefighters received a call that a 29-year-old man had fallen 10 feet while rock climbing above the Makapuu Point Lighthouse Lookout, Ching said.
The rock climber hurt his back and was flown down from the trail.
2 people plucked from sinking trimaran
The Coast Guard rescued two people from a sinking trimaran near Honokohau Harbor on Saturday.
The rescue was initiated by a good Samaritan who saw the disabled 18-foot vessel and called for help around 11:30 a.m. Coast Guard personnel arrived on the scene to find the trimaran partially submerged. They rescued the two passengers and towed the vessel back to Honokohau Harbor in Kailua-Kona.
No injuries were reported.
