The 48th edition of the 2015 Transpac will begin Monday with the first of four separate waves of 61 entries leaving Rainbow Harbor in Long Beach, Calif.

The Transpac is one of the world’s oldest and longest biennial ocean races, having first sailed in 1906 from an idea inspired by King Kalakaua.

The event stretches 2,225 miles from Los Angeles to Honolulu, with the finish at the Diamond Head buoy.

The other three divisions set sail on Thursday and Saturday.

Leahi 00 Premier wins at Presidents Cup

Leahi 00 Premier captured the Under-15 Girls title at the U.S. Youth Soccer National Presidents Cup with a 2-0 win over Eclipse Elite White (Ill.) on Sunday in Overland Park, Kan.

After a scoreless first half, Jacey Lyn Iwane scored in the 42nd minute. Eclipse Elite pulled its goalie in stoppage time and Cheyenne Anuhea Smith added a goal on a shot from midfield for Leahi.

Leahi went 2-1 in pool play, closing with a 1-0 win over Eclipse Elite on Saturday on a goal by Dayna Nishimura in the 77th minute to earn a spot in the final. Leahi allowed one goal in the four-day tournament.
