A Hawaii surfer is guaranteed to be in the fourth round of the Cascais Women’s Pro in Portugal.
Carissa Moore, Tatiana Weston-Webb and Malia Manuel will compete against each other in today’s third round, with fellow Hawaii surfer Alessa Quizon competing in another heat.
Quizon, Manuel and Moore all won their first-round heats on Friday and Weston-Webb took out Silvana Lima 12.40-7.10 in the second heat.
Coco Ho was the only other Hawaii surfer to compete, finishing second to Sally Fitzgibbons in the first round and losing to Nikki Van Dijk 12.60-10.26 in the second round.
Zietz falls in semifinal
Hawaii surfer Sebastian Zietz lost in the semifinals of the SATA Azores Pro in the Azores Islands on Friday.
Zietz, who had the highest score of the quarterfinals with a 18.37, could only muster 11.57 in the semis to lose to Australia’s Dion Atkinson’s 15.67. Atkinson went on to lose to fellow Aussie Jack Freestone 15.50-15.00 in the final.
Zietz collected 6,500 ranking points with just a few weeks to go before the tour’s Hawaii stretch.
