Crews search ocean for missing teen
City lifeguards and fire rescue personnel were scouring the ocean near Makapuu on Thursday for a 16-year-old Hawaii Kai boy whom police reported missing a day earlier.
Noah Montemayor, who may be emotionally distraught, was last seen going to bed at about 9 Tuesday morning and has not been seen or heard from since, police said Wednesday.
Montemayor’s personal belongings were found nearby, which prompted the search, a source close to the investigation said.

Boy, 17, arrested for alleged theft at Maui school
A 17-year-old Makawao boy has been arrested in connection with a theft, after several King Kekaulike High School varsity football players were initially accused of stealing items from Kekaulike students last month, authorities said.
Police said the theft occurred around 4 p.m. Sept. 12 at Lahainaluna High School.
Donalyn Dela Cruz, Department of Education spokeswoman, said about a dozen victims — all Kekaulike students — lost a total of about $200 in cash and other belongings, including Hydro Flask water bottles and headphones, during Kekaulike’s junior varsity football game at Lahainaluna.
She said the items were stolen from lockers during the football game. Most of the stolen items, except for the cash, were returned, Dela Cruz said.
Dela Cruz said the school handled the incident with appropriate action, but could not release any details because of student privacy rules.
Police said four Kekaulike varsity players were identified as being involved in the theft, but would not release further details on the case.
