Two Molokai men suffered gunshot wounds near a house in Hoolehua on Wednesday afternoon, Maui police said.
Police said a 52-year-old man was taken to the Molokai Airport and transported to an Oahu hospital by air ambulance. The other man, 37, was taken by ambulance to Molokai General Hospital.
Molokai police responded to a call from a house on Puu Kapele Avenue in Hoolehua. Officers found two people had been shot near the home, police said.
Police provided no further details. They continue to investigate the case.
No arrests have been made. Anyone with information is asked to call Molokai police at 553-5355.
Man who jumped in front of car ID’d
The Honolulu Medical Examiner’s Office has identified the 25-year-old man who died from injuries after jumping in front of a car Saturday near Wahiawa as La’Quan Howard.
Police have classified the case as an unattended death, pending the results of an autopsy. Traffic investigators have not classified the death as a pedestrian fatality.
A 25th Infantry Division spokesman said Howard was a specialist stationed at Schofield Barracks.
The medical examiner said the victim died of cranial injuries due to blunt force trauma to the head.
Emergency Medical Services reported that a man jumped in front of a vehicle just after 6:30 p.m. Saturday on Kamehameha Highway near Paalaa Uka Pupukea Road north of Wahiawa.
Paramedics assessed, treated, and took the patient in critical condition to a hospital where he died.
A female driver also was treated and taken to the hospital in stable condition.
Makakilo man to face weapons charges
Prosecutors charged a 23-year-old Makakilo man Tuesday with weapons and ammunition violations that stemmed from a traffic stop in Kapolei.
Damien Niumataa was charged with two weapons counts and one ammunition charge.
At 5:43 p.m. Sunday, police stopped a vehicle at Nohohale and Lihau streets, and discovered firearms and ammunition allegedly inside the vehicle five men were riding in.
Police arrested four other men on weapons violations but they were not charged with the violations.
A 27-year-old Makakilo man, who was the driver of the vehicle, Malae Agiga, was charged with driving under the influence of an intoxicant.
Man found unresponsive off Makaha
A man in his 40s apparently became unresponsive Tuesday in waters off Makaha Beach and was taken to the hospital in critical condition, Emergency Medical Services said.
At about 3:10 p.m., Ocean Safety lifeguards and EMS personnel attended to the man and treated him at the scene.
Sex assault reported on UH campus
Police are investigating a report of a second-degree sexual assault that occurred on the University of Hawaii at Manoa campus early Tuesday morning.
The UH Manoa Department of Public Safety issued an in-house email to students and faculty saying the alleged sexual assault occurred in student housing.
According to the department’s email alert, the male suspect is described as being 6 feet 4 inches tall, with a slim build and short black hair.
The suspect was known to the female victim, according to the email alert.

UH spokesman Dan Meisenzahl said university policy prevents him from providing further information, including whether the man is a student.

Wayward hiker found on Maui
Maui firefighters and an Ulupalakua Ranch employee came to the aid of a 19-year-old Idaho visitor who was lost without food or water Monday night in the Makena area of South Maui.
The hiker from Coeur d’Alene, who is staying with friends in Kihei, started his hike at about 1 p.m. from the Wailea area, and headed south toward Makena. He called 911 dispatchers for help after darkness set in and he was unable to find his way back.
Dispatchers were able to get his GPS position from his mobile phone.
Firefighters contacted Ulupalakua Ranch for assistance in gaining access to the remote area in Kanaio, makai of Piilani Highway. Before firefighters could reach the area with all-terrain vehicles, a ranch employee used an ATV to drive the 2-mile lava rock trail and found the hiker on the “King’s Trail” near the ocean, just west of the Auwahi Windmills.
The hiker was brought up to firefighters waiting on Piilani Highway at about 9:30 p.m., where he was given fluids. A fire battalion chief drove the man back to Kihei.
Blessing today at Coco Palms
A blessing ceremony at the shuttered Coco Palms Resort on Kauai will take place at 4:30 p.m. today ahead of demolition work.
The ceremony at 4-1345 Kuhio Highway in Kapaa is open to the public. Demolition permits submitted by Coco Palms Hui for the hotel’s main buildings were recently approved. Investors plan to reopen the hotel in 2017.
