Wow, what a game! Just too bad we couldn’t watch it.
Local boy-doing-good Marcus Mariota led his Tennessee Titans to a win on Sunday, doing so in thrilling fashion with a 5-yard scoring pass in OT. The 34-28 victory over New Orleans snapped the Titans’ six-game skid, and marked Mariota’s return after two weekends out with a sprained knee. No turnovers, no sacks for the rookie quarterback, much to the relief of Mariota fans all the way from Tennessee to Hawaii. Now, if only there was a commitment to have Titans games broadcast here on a regular basis, NFL Sundays in these islands would be even better.
HPR’s Titterton prepares to sign off
His is the voice that launched a thousand checks.
Michael Titterton, the outgoing president and general manager of Hawaii Public Radio, is probably best known to public radio listeners through the station’s pledge drives, when he would urge his audience to contribute generously to keeping HPR solvent. His radio voice, a distinctive English-accented baritone, is instantly recognizable — suave, elegant and down-home cheerful all at once.
Titterton will leave HPR in much better shape than when he found it in 1999. The budget has tripled, membership has nearly doubled, and 13 transmitters send HPR’s signal far and wide. Titterton plans to step down at the end of June, but we hope to still hear from him from time to time.
