The body of a missing free-diver was recovered Sunday morning off Molokai, according to the Maui Fire Department.

The Coast Guard and Molokai Fire Department searched Papohaku Beach, where 25-year-old Steven Likua was last seen swimming at about 3 p.m. Saturday.

The search was suspended at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Emergency crews, friends of the victim and volunteers resumed the search at first light Sunday and found Likua’s body at about 10:30 a.m. near Kaluakoi Beach.

Fire mars front of Kauai house

A house fire in Kalaheo, Kauai, on Friday night resulted in about $10,000 in damage to the front porch and the attic above the porch, Kauai County said by email.

Some water damage from fire hoses also occurred in the living room and front bedroom of the three-bedroom house.

The two people that live in the house escaped unharmed, the county said.

Three units responded to the 9:35 p.m. alarm. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

Haleakala shut to tours Tuesday

Haleakala National Park will be closed to commercial tours Tuesday so Native Hawaiians can use the area to practice cultural traditions.

The Maui News reports the park will still be open to visitors who pay regular park fees on a day set aside as part of the Commercial Services Plan at Haleakala.

Commercial-free days are also set for March 9 and June 21. Park officials chose the dates using input from Native Hawaiian employees, residents and the Bishop Museum, among others.
