The Maui Court-Appointed Special Advocate program needs volunteers willing to be trained as advocates for abused and neglected children.
A 30-hour mandatory training program will be held May 16, 18, 20, 23 and 25 in Wailuku, and candidates must attend every training session.
CASA volunteers who complete training and clear criminal background checks will be appointed by a judge to represent a child and advocate for the child’s best interest. Volunteers typically gather information, submit written recommendations and attend court hearings.
Candidates must be at least 21 years old and be willing to commit between four to 20 hours per month working on an assigned case that could take up to 18 months to resolve.
