While the unveiling of the T-Mobile Arena on April 6 is being touted as Las Vegas’ next big event, it turns out there’ll be another one preceding it. The Park, the outdoor dining and entertainment district that will connect the arena with the New York-New York and Monte Carlo resorts, will debut April 4.
The expansive outdoor area will include several bars, as well as small cafes and bistros, including the Beer Garden, with an outdoor play area offering bocce ball, darts and pingpong; Sake Rok, a sushi joint that morphs into a Japanese-influenced nightlife venue; and a California Pizza Kitchen.
Plaza pool: The downtown Plaza has begun a multimillion-dollar renovation of its rooftop pool. Already one of the coolest pool settings in Vegas, the area will get new cabanas, daybeds, dining areas and bars, and is scheduled to be open by pool season this year.
More Mariah: Additional dates have been announced for Mariah Carey’s “#1 to Infinity” show at Caesars Palace. In addition to nine dates in February, 18 more shows have been scheduled from June 7 through Sept. 11. Tickets start at $55 plus taxes and fees.
Pizza plays: Two downtown pizza joints have opened. Pizza Lotto at the El Cortez serves pizza by the slice, along with a full menu of whole pies, and Italian sandwiches and salads. About a mile south on Las Vegas Boulevard, Inna Gadda di Pizza has opened in the new Pawn Plaza, serving only pizza, and comes from the same owners of the Secret Pizza place at the Cosmopolitan. A slice of cheese is $3.
Question: I’m coming to town for the Super Bowl. Where’s a good place to find the proposition bets?
Answer: The “props” — bets on things such as which team will score first or who will win the MVP — will be available at most sports books, but Westgate’s SuperBook will have the most, with as many as 400 expected. Other good places to scout are William Hill sports books and any of the Station Casinos.
