A weather system approaching the state will likely bring vog, rain and wind for the Punahou Carnival and Super Bowl weekend, according to the National Weather Service.
Wind will likely blow in a southeast direction today, bringing some vog over Oahu ahead of the weather system.
There’s a chance of some afternoon showers over leeward and interior sections because of daytime heating.
The cold front will move over Kauai late Saturday afternoon and quickly move down the island chain, bringing rain and blustery winds from the northwest and north.
It might be a good idea to bring an umbrella and a sweater to the carnival Saturday night.
Showers are likely over Oahu on Saturday night as the front passes. Cool north winds will also bring chilly conditions.
“Overnight temperatures will be cooler than what we’ve been used to,” said Matt Foster, a meteorologist with the Honolulu office of the National Weather Service.
The cool temperatures at night will likely stick around through the beginning of next week.
The winds are expected to be gusty even after the front passes.
Saturday’s forecast calls for northwest and north winds blowing at 20 mph to 30 mph, gusting to 45 mph.
For those planning outdoor Super Bowl parties, the gusty winds are expected to continue Sunday, forecasters say.
There could be some morning showers, but skies should mostly clear by the afternoon.
