California man is charged in card fraud
Prosecutors on Thursday charged a 37-year-old Los Angeles man who was arrested Tuesday for allegedly making fraudulent credit card purchases exceeding $40,000.
Justin Thompson, of a Wilshire Boulevard address, was arrested on suspicion of first-degree theft and multiple offenses including fraudulent use of a credit card.
Thompson was charged Thursday with four counts of first-degree theft, one count of first-degree attempted theft and five counts of fraudulent use of a credit card. His bail was set at $1 million.
Police said Thompson made purchases of more than $20,000 with a fraudulent credit card Monday. He then returned to the area Tuesday and was identified and arrested.
After further investigation, police said they learned he made three other purchases totaling more than $20,000 and an attempted fraudulent purchase of more than $20,000.
Police said Thompson used a single fraudulent credit card to make the purchases.
2 males wanted after Kapahulu robbery
Police are looking for two male suspects who robbed four occupants of a Kapahulu home at gunpoint Thursday morning.
Police said the two males entered the home armed with a firearm and robbed two men, ages 53 and 24, and two women, ages 57 and 24.
Police said the suspects fled before officers arrived.
Police have classified the case as a first-degree robbery, kidnapping and first-degree burglary.
Blaze ignites near Molokai fire station
Molokai firefighters did not have to go far to extinguish a brush fire that broke out Thursday in Hoolehua.
The fire started at about 11:45 a.m. about 100 yards behind the Hoolehua Fire Station between a parking lot and homes.
Firefighters were on the scene in about two minutes and found an area of brush about 20 by 50 feet on fire.
The fire was under control at 11:49 a.m. and extinguished at 12:56 p.m.
No homes were damaged and there were no injuries.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
An engine and water tanker responded from Kaunakakai to help the Hoolehua firefighters.
