The Jefferson Elementary School students presented a hula performance as the school’s ohana dedicated a new outdoor all-natural, handmade pa (stage), made in the ancient Hawaiian style using modern tools by parents, students, staff and volunteers, Friday, March 11, 2016. Construction of the pa began in the middle of January and was dedicated in honor of Jefferson Elementary School principal Garret Zakahi for his accomplishments and dedication in perpetuating the Hawaiian culture at the school. On the first Friday in May, the school plans to use the pa to celebrate its first May Day after about a 15 year hiatus.
