National sports radio host Dan Patrick offhandedly said on his show Wednesday morning that choosing the University of Hawaii Rainbow Warriors to win over the California Golden Bears in the first round of the NCAA basketball championship would be a good example of an uninformed, “outlandish” pick.
That was a little sad to hear, though it is the conventional wisdom.
But then, surprise, on the same day, President Barack Obama’s March Madness bracket picks were revealed, and guess which of the two teams he predicted would progress to the second round?
Maybe he’s biased, having spent much of his youth in Hawaii — in fact, he called UH his “homer” pick — but, in any case, we hope he’s right. Go ’Bows!
Sonic Drive-In on its way; In-N-Out probably not
Beef lovers are eagerly anticipating the upcoming arrival of the first Sonic Drive-In restaurant to the shores of Hawaii.
Isle residents always seem overjoyed by the addition of another mainland chain — especially those that advertise nationally.
Could In-N-Out Burger be next?
That’s doubtful, given that eatery’s business model. Its drive-ins tend to be relatively close to its meat processing plants, so it can provide fresh rather than frozen beef patties. So the distance from Hawaii is probably a dealbreaker.
As for the long-sought deal to bring Trader Joe’s here: Hope springs eternal in the retail business, but holding one’s breath would be inadvisable.
