A man in his 30s died early Sunday after suffering a single gunshot wound to the left side of his chest, Emergency Medical Services said.
The incident happened around 3:47 a.m. at 1851 Liliha St.
The man was transported to the hospital, where he later died. Police closed Liliha Street in both directions between Kuakini Street and Kunawai Lane to conduct an investigation.
Hikers rescued from Mount Kaala
Honolulu Fire Department personnel rescued a pair of hikers from the Mount Kaala trail Sunday.
The two women had reached the ridgeline of the 4,026-foot mountain but found themselves unable to safely descend, according to Capt. Kevin Mokulehua.
Seven HFD units with 21 personnel responded to the 3:12 p.m. call. Eight firefighters hiked up to reach the pair and assisted as a helicopter airlifted them to a landing zone one at a time.
No injuries were reported.
