A 47-year-old Kaneohe man accused of stabbing his brother-in-law in the back during an argument in Kaneohe has entered a plea of not guilty.
Bryan Lucrecio was indicted by an Oahu grand jury April 5 and charged with second-degree murder in connection with the death of Darryl Tomita, 55. His bail was set at $500,000.
When Lucrecio was arrested at the Kaneohe Bay Plaza office building on March 29 shortly after the incident. Authorities said he admitted stabbing Tomita.
The case will be heard by Circuit Court Judge Glenn Kim, beginning the week of June 13.
According to a police affidavit, Tomita was arguing with his stepfather in the hallway of their home on Waikapoki Road just before 5:30 p.m. March 29. A witness told police that a third person, Lucrecio, approached Tomita from behind and stabbed him once in his upper back.
Police said Lucrecio fled but was found 15 minutes later at Kaneohe Bay Plaza on William Henry Road.
Tomita was taken to Castle Medical Center in extremely critical condition, according to Emergency Medical Services personnel. He later died at the hospital.
