Jeannie Pak won the Hawaii State Women’s Golf Association members-only match play championship last week, defeating Mira Jang, 3 and 2, in the final at Oahu Country Club.
Pak won her first two matches 6 and 5 and 6 and 4.
Jang beat defending champion Mira Han in a semifinal, 3 and 2. Han and Jang finished first and third last month in the Hawaii State Senior Women’s Amateur.
Val Vares, a 22-handicapper, won A flight, 1-up over 17-handicapper Emily Perry. Handicaps were used in A flight, but not the championship flight.
Ko Olina hosting putting experience
Ko Olina is hosting a Scotty Cameron Putting Experience Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The latest putters will be available to try out at the free event and fitting appointments will run every 15 minutes. Call the golf shop (676-5300) to schedule a fitting.

Golfers can still register for the 66th Jennie K. Wilson Invitational, the lone major remaining for Hawaii women golfers. The tournament is May 13-15 at Mid-Pacific Country Club. Applications are available at mpcchi.org and hswga.net.
Turtle Bay holds intro
Get Golf Ready, a five-week PGA series designed to teach people what they need to know to feel comfortable on the course, starts May 4 at Turtle Bay Resort. It runs each Wednesday from 4-5 p.m. through June 1.
Each session focuses on various golf skills, including navigating around the club house and practice areas, types of golf clubs, correct golf “lingo,” shortcuts to save time when playing, short- and long-distance shots and rules.
In addition to learning the basics, participants go out on the Fazio Course for the final session. Early sessions are on the Fazio’s practice area.
