The Hawaii Pacific baseball team (27-17, 17-15 PacWest) was swept by No. 20 Dixie State (34-10, 22-8) by scores of 4-3 and 11-4 in St. George, Utah, on Friday afternoon.
The Sharks outhit the Red Storm 12-7 in game one and were led by catcher Steven Camberos’ 4-for-4 day at the plate, which included two RBIs. However, the Sharks left seven runners on base.
In game two, DSU set the tone with eight runs in the first three innings and had a lead as big as 11-1 in the sixth. Dixie State starter Mason Hitty improved to 9-0 this year after striking out six, walking one and allowing one run in six innings. Sharks starter Ethan Kalin dropped to 3-3 after giving up four runs and three walks in 1 2/3 innings pitched with no strikeouts.
>> The Hawaii Hilo baseball team lost its series opener to Academy of Art in Oakland, Calif., 5-0. The Urban Knights (11-27, 6-18) scored all of their runs in the fifth inning and rode the arm of starter Brett Bovee, who pitched a complete game. Bovee struck out four Vulcans (5-29, 4-25) and surrendered just five hits and two walks.
Concordia sweeps BYU-Hawaii
The BYU-Hawaii softball team dropped consecutive games to Concordia University (Calif.) in Irvine, Calif., on Friday afternoon, 7-4 in eight innings and 8-0 in six.
The Seasiders (9-29, 5-23 PacWest) lost game one in heartbreaking fasion. With a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the seventh inning, Kristen Romero scored on a throwing error for the Eagles (38-11, 19-7). In extra innings, shortstop Charlotte Foster belted a three-run walk-off home run to end the game.
The BYUH bats were shut down in game two, as CUI’s BethAnn McCann tossed a three-hit complete game, striking out three Seasiders and improving to 12-2. Seasiders starter Meghan Wantz dropped to 3-17 after surrendering eight hits and seven runs in 3 1/3 innings.
