LONDON » Renowned theoretical physicist Stephen Hawking may have a good grasp of the workings of the universe, but he says he can’t understand Donald Trump’s popularity.

Hawking tells ITV’s “Good Morning Britain” show Tuesday that he has no explanation for the success of the presumptive Republican Party presidential nominee.

“He is a demagogue who seems to appeal to the lowest common denominator,” Hawking says in prerecorded comments to be broadcast when the show airs at 6 a.m. London time Tuesday.

Hawking , who speaks through a computer system operated with his cheek, also made a plea for British voters to choose to remain in the European Union in the June 23 referendum.

He said it is important not only for economic and security research but also to further scientific research.

Hawking says: “Gone are the days we could stand on our own, against the world. We need to be part of a larger group of nations, both for our security, and our trade.”

Hawking has a form of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, known as Lou Gehrig’s disease, that has gradually paralyzed him since he was first diagnosed at age 21.

Smart man, smart comment but, his enigma of Trump’s popularity is synonymously to us who are also confounded by the majority preference for a man who is like a ship without its rudder!

I’m a little surprised at Stephen Hawking being perplexed about Trump’s ascendance. As a Brit, he should know what happens when a people feel great frustration over an existing leadership or prevailing form of government. Did he forget or dismiss a little thing known as the Revolutionary War?

And before anybody brings it up, yeah, I do subscribe to the conventional wisdom that only about a third of the colonists fully supported the revolution, with another third being true-blue tories and the remaining third having “no opinion.”

Why isn’t he more baffled by a woman who lies over and over again all of her career, and the for people who support such a deceitful person?

Just goes to show you that he isn’t as SMART as most ordinary people made him out to be……..

We all react to what we’ve experienced. Mr Hawking hasn’t experienced the tyranny and lies that Americans have for the past 50 years. If he did, he would understand the rise of Mr. Trump.
