An Oahu grand jury Wednesday indicted a 33-year-old Pearl City man on a charge of attempted murder in connection with the death of a 36-year-old man who was run over by his own car in Kalihi.

Brandon Reis was indicted on second-degree attempted murder and four related weapons charges, a spokesman for the prosecutor’s office said Wednesday. His bail was confirmed at $1 million.

Initially, Reis was charged Sunday with manslaughter, first-degree terroristic threatening and three firearm offenses in connection with the June 22 death of Kyen Knowles.

According to a police affidavit, surveillance video shows a man walking up to Knowles’ car at about 5 p.m. while pulling out a handgun.

The affidavit said that when Knowles tried to reverse the vehicle to get out of the way, Reis apparently fired the gun into the car. Knowles then tried to exit the vehicle and was accidentally run over on Waterhouse Street, the affidavit said.

Knowles had been involved in an argument at a fast-food restaurant prior to the shooting, his family has said.

Reis was arrested Friday. He had been out on bonds totaling $350,000 in connection with four separate criminal trials, which had been delayed for various reasons.

Charges from 2011 to 2014 include first-degree robbery, first-degree burglary, three counts of kidnapping, use of a firearm and impersonating a law enforcement officer, as well as a drug-related offense and car theft.
