The purchase of the Kauleoli Fishing Village extends public access to the King’s Trail at the City of Refuge, a popular cultural and tourist spot. “It seems more and more visitors are interested in hiking and getting off the beaten path,” said Laura Kaakua, Native Lands project manager for The Trust for Public Land. “Because the entrance is through Pu‘uhonua o Honaunau, I think this will be a popular hike.”
