Morimoto, the namesake restaurant of celebrity chef Masaharu Morimoto, will serve its last meals at The Modern Honolulu on Dec. 8.
“The Modern and Morimoto have been on a six-year journey to offer a unique dining experience and exceed the expectations of our guests,” Morimoto said in a statement.
A new, as yet unnamed restaurant will be established in the Morimoto space, and “we are pleased that all of the current employees will be a part of the new restaurant,” said Kelly Hoen, general manager of The Modern, in a prepared statement.
Morimoto will open two new concepts at the Pacific Beach Hotel, which is undergoing a $115 million renovation and will reopen as ‘Alohilani Resort at Waikiki Beach next summer.
Morimoto Asia will feature Japanese, Chinese, Korean, Malay and other types of Asian street food, while Momosan will be a beer garden serving ramen, yakitori and a variety of small plates.
