Sakuma wins junior classic
Alanis Sakuma won big in the oldest division at Sunday’s Kiahuna Junior Classic, but the girls’ runner-up might have been the biggest story of the Hawaii State Junior Golf Association tournament.
Grace Kyung Lee, not scheduled to graduate from high school until 2025, finished seven shots behind Sakuma at Kiahuna Golf Course.
Sakuma, a high school senior, shot rounds of 73-74 to capture the girls 13-18 title.
Trevor Arashiro closed with a 72 to win the boys 15-18 championship with a score of 8-over-par 148. Zackary Kaneshiro was two shots back. Both are seniors.
Younger winners were Jake David Sequin (77—157) in boys 13-14, Ferrari Dudoit (80—162) in girls 11-12, Lihue’s Kade Kikuchi (64—134) in boys 7-10 and Teal Matsueda (72—142) in girls 7-10.
Golfers played Kiahuna between 2,633-6,925 yards, depending on division.
