The University of Hawaii-Manoa business school brought together scholarship donors and recipients this week to celebrate more than $1 million in scholarships this academic year.
The Shidler College of Business has the most robust scholarship program in the UH system. Since 2005 the number of awards has increased to 350 from 161, or 117 percent. On average, 17 percent of Shidler students receive merit scholarship support.
Donors included Enterprise Rent-A-Car and sister brands Alamo Rent-A-Car and National Car Rental. This year’s luncheon at the Royal Hawaiian hotel featured donor Martin Welch, chief executive officer of Hawaii Employers’ Mutual Insurance Co. (HEMIC).
