For the first time, original works by members of the Hawaii Watercolor Society and Hawaii Glass Artists are being combined in a holiday showcase that opened Tuesday at the Arts at Marks Garage.
“Translucent,” curated by visiting artist Sally French, offers 85 paintings and more than 30 glass pieces.
“The colors are beautiful, real celebratory,” said Rich Richardson, executive director of Arts at Marks. “They’re both very engaged groups of people united by the love for their mediums.”
The Watercolor Society, established in 1962 by noted Hawaii artist Hon Chew Hee, fosters interest in water-based media. Hawaii Glass Artists, founded in 1995, serves as an educational resource for people interested in glass as a craft and fine-art medium.
The framed and ready-to-hang watercolor paintings measure 9 by 11 inches or smaller and range in price from $75 to $175. Besides closeups of dog’s faces, there are tropical fruits, exotic plants and landscapes. Contemporary glass pieces, from vases to plates and standing panels, range from about $20 to $1,000.
All pieces are designed to be purchased and carried away.
