Hawaii island officials reported two drownings Sunday.
The Hawaii County Fire Department said a 47-year-old woman drowned after being swept away by a flash flood Sunday in Ahualoa.
The Hawaii Police Department also took a man to Hilo Medical Center after he had been discovered on the ocean floor near Kehena Beach. The Fire Department classified the incident as a drowning.
The Fire Department responded to a swimmer in distress near Kehena Beach in Pahoa at 12:11 p.m. Officials said the swimmer was last seen facedown and sinking near a rocky point at the south end of the beach.
Officials said rescuers on personal watercraft retrieved the body. They discovered the body on the ocean floor in about 30 feet of water approximately 100 yards from where he was last seen.
Rangers seek witnesses to fatal accident
Hawaii National Park Service rangers are looking for witnesses to a fatal two-vehicle accident on Highway 11 at the Namakanipaiao Campground intersection in Hawai‘i Volcanoes National Park.
Hawaii island police closed Highway 11 between mile markers 32 and 34 for several hours Saturday as they investigated. Both lanes were reopened by 6:30 p.m.
Park rangers reported that a white Hyundai Elantra and a blue Toyota Scion were involved in the accident at about 1 p.m.
The driver of the Hyundai, a 65-year-old man from New Jersey, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Toyota, a 33-year-old local man, was transported to Hilo Medical Center.
The identification of the victims is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Hospitalized victim in stabbing loses life
A man taken to the Queen’s Medical Center on Saturday night in critical condition after he was stabbed multiple times has died.
The Medical Examiner’s Office said the man had died, but did not provide more details.
The stabbing occurred at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday. Emergency Medical Services reported the victim, described as being in his 30s, was stabbed near the intersection of Iwilei Road and North Nimitz Highway.
