Weather wreaks havoc for fire department
Strong wind fanned a small brush fire near Sandy Beach on Sunday, but fire crews extinguished it before it reached Kalanianaole Highway.
At 1:23 p.m. firefighters responded to a fire about 200 feet inland with high wind advancing it toward the highway.
The fire was brought under control by 1:33 p.m. and extinguished at 2:30 p.m. The blaze burned about a half-acre of brush.
The cause was undetermined.
Meanwhile, firefighters responded to 11 weather-related incidents from 9 a.m. to 4:45 p.m. Sunday, including four blown roofs, three downed trees, two downed power lines and two miscellaneous hazards, the Fire Department said.
HPD looking for man in sexual assault case
Police were investigating a sexual assault at the Stan Sheriff Center on Saturday night during a University of Hawaii basketball game.
The incident happened at about 7:45 p.m. when a female was allegedly groped by a man as she walked out of a bathroom, UH-Manoa’s Department of Public Safety said.
The woman reported that the unknown man fled on foot. Police were called and a report was filed, the department said.
The suspect was described as in his 30s, about 6 feet tall with short, wavy hair and a slim to average build. He wore dark pants and a blue collared shirt.

The men’s basketball team was playing UC Santa Barbara at the time.
