Elliott DeFreitas finished with 15 points and Connor Looney had 13 points for the Sharks (20-1, 12-1 PacWest), who trailed 34-20 with 5:08 left in the first half.
Michael Smith scored 22 points for the Lancers (20-2, 12-2).

Sharks fall to No. 7 Lancers
VeAnne Navarro scored 14 points and Breanna Mackenzie had nine rebounds in the Hawaii Pacific women’s basketball team’s 83-63 loss to No. 7 California Baptist in Riverside, Calif.
The Sharks fell to 13-4, 10-2 PacWest.
Kamille Diaz finished with 16 points and Erin Asher added 15 for the Lancers (23-2, 14-0).

McHale scores 8.50 at Volcom Pipe Pro
The North Shore’s Wyatt McHale had an 8.50, the top wave score during the first round of the Volcom Pipe Pro on Thursday at Haleiwa.
McHale, 15, is the youngest among the 112 competitors in the World Surf League Qualifying Series 3,000 event.
McHale defeated Gregg Nakamura, Kelson Lau and Noah Beschen in his heat.
Freshman sparks UH water polo win
Hawaii freshman Maartje Keuning scored four goals to lead the No. 8 Rainbow Wahine water polo team to a 16-6 win over Santa Clara on Thursday at the Broncos’ Sullivan Aquatic Center.
UH junior Chloe Barr and sophomores Julia Barton, Femke Aan and Irene Gonzalez added two goals each for the Rainbow Wahine (4-2). Barr also had three assists and three steals and goalie Sarah Logan made four saves.
UH opens play in the Stanford Invitational on Saturday against No. 6 UC Irvine and No. 1 Stanford. The Wahine close their road trip on Sunday with a match against No. 10 Loyola Marymount and a bracket game.
