Damage was estimated at $365,000 from a fire along Old Government Road in Waianae, but the cause of the blaze that killed four family pets was still undetermined Monday.
The fire erupted Sunday, when six people were home and smelled smoke before smoke alarms went off, said Honolulu Fire Capt. David Jenkins.
None of the human occupants was injured, but four pets died.
Firefighters were dispatched to the two-story, single- family home at 2:22 p.m., and the blaze was extinguished at 4:25 p.m. The fire caused approximately $315,000 in damage to the structure and $50,000 to the contents, Jenkins said.
Power failure might raise a stink in Kailua
City officials are warning those in the area around the Kailua Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant that they might detect an odor as a result of a power outage at the facility Monday morning. The odor may be detectable until power is fully restored. It’s unknown how long that will be. Crews are on-site investigating the issue, and portable generators have been brought to supply temporary power.
