The University of Hawaii women’s swim team dominated at the MPSF Championships with a score of 717 Saturday at East LA College. UH won by a margin of 93.5 points, followed by UC Santa Barbara (623.5) and UC Davis (593).
The women’s 400 free relay team posted a record time of 3:19.03 and sophomore Bryndis Hansen shattered the 50 free record (22.38).
Junior Franziska Weidner placed first in three races — she beat the 200 individual medley meet record with a time of 1:56.32, defended her 200 freestyle title (1:46.67) and finished first in the 100 freestyle (48.88).
The Rainbow Wahine also placed first in the 800 and 200 free relays, and freshman Phoebe Hines finished first in the 1,650 freestyle.
Madison Sthamann also broke an MPSF record in platform diving at the Rose Bowl Aquatic Center with a score of 313.90 and placed first in 3-meter diving (306.70). Teammate Monica Gavaris clinched the 1-meter diving title.

Sophomore Metin Aydin clinched the 200 individual medley with a time of 1:44.66 and the 200 backstroke (1:41.92). Junior Jonas Gutzat also placed first in the 1,650 freestyle with a time of 15:21.45 and freshman Johan Sandell secured the platform diving title with a score of 404.40.
Chaminade rallies past Point Loma
Kuany Kuany scored 23 points and Chaminade went on a 30-14 run midway through the second half to rally past Point Loma 94-78 in a PacWest men’s basketball game Saturday night at McCabe Gym.
Roundel Goodwin added 18 points and Kiran Shastri 16 for the Silverswords (17-9, 13-6) who trailed at halftime 50-41. The victory clinches the No. 4 seed in next month’s conference tournament for Chaminade.
Sterling Somers had 22 points, and Zach Turnham added 15 points and 12 rebounds for the Sea Lions (19-12, 9-9).
>> At Cannon Activities Center, Marcus Bradley scored 19 points to lead five Dixie State players in double figures as the Trailblazers held off a late charge from Brigham Young-Hawaii 80-75.
Gabriel Watson had a team-high 14 points and Shad Watson 13 for the Seasiders (6-19, 4-15 against Dixie State (18-6, 15-3). Caeleb Roney added a double-double (11 points, 10 rebounds) for BYUH.
BYU-Hawaii women’s hoops tops Dixie State
Tyvette White scored 24 points and Brigham Young-Hawaii outscored Dixie State by eight in the third quarter en route to an 83-69 victory Saturday in a PacWest women’s basketball game at Cannon Activities Center.
Safia Sheikh and Kristin Baldwin each added 18 points for the Seasiders (10-15, 7-12 PacWest). Ali Franks scored 19 points and Lisa VanCampen added 17 for the Trailblazers (4-20, 4-14).
>> At McCabe Gym, Courtney Kaupu scored 15 points and Kristle Henry added 12, but it was not enough to prevent Chaminade from dropping its sixth straight as the Silverswords fell to Point Loma 68-44.
Lilia Maio added 10 points and 10 rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season for Chaminade (3-20, 3-16 PacWest). For the Sea Lions (22-3, 16-2) Roya Rustamazada finished with 17 points and 10 rebounds.
HPU sweeps baseball doubleheader
Wyatt Hoppie’s two-run homer highlighted a three-run fifth as Hawaii Pacific defeated University of the Sciences of Philadelphia 15-9 in the first game of Saturday’s nonconference baseball doubleheader at Hans L’Orange Park.
In the nightcap, the Sharks (7-2) completed the sweep of the twinbill by downing the Devils (1-3) 6-1. Jordan Knoll scattered two hits, striking out nine, in a complete-game effort.
UH softball doubleheader rained out
For the second straight Saturday, the University of Hawaii softball team had a doubleheader canceled due to rain.
The third day of the DeMarini Desert Classic in Las Vegas was washed out, taking with it UH’s scheduled games against Memphis and Colorado State.
