Aydin entered the meet seeded 38th in the 200 IM with a then-UH-record time of 1 minute, 44.66 seconds. In his debut in the NCAA Division I meet, he lowered the program mark to 1:43.32 and placed 16th in preliminaries to advance to the final.
He posted a time of 1:43.48 in his second swim and his 15th-place finish marks UH’s highest in a swimming event at the NCAA championships since 2004, when Kurt Boehm (13th in the 200 butterfly), Peter Thew (13th, 200 freestyle) and Cheyne Bloch (15th, 200 breaststroke) qualified for the finals.
Aydin’s two points left UH in 30th place in the team standings after two days. He will swim the 100 backstroke today and the 200 backstroke, his strongest event, on Saturday. Aydin is seeded 30th in the 100 back (46.50 seconds) and 21st in the 200 back (1:41.03).
