Lay low and hide out with a visit to the latest eatery on Kuhio Avenue in Waikiki.
The Hideout restaurant opened March 22 in the Laylow Hotel, formerly the Aqua Wave Waikiki but now transformed in a $60 million renovation under the Autograph Collection Hotels.
The Hideout features Pacific Rim cuisine as interpreted by chef Bryan Byard.
Highlights include flatbreads with toppings inspired by flavors of Hawaii (kalua pork and pineapple), Thailand (spicy chicken and pickled papaya), Korea (bulgogi and kim chee) and Italy (pepperoni and mozzarella).
The restaurant includes a wide lanai overlooking Kuhio Avenue, with fire pits in the corners where guests can gather.
The signature cocktail is the No. 115, an Orange Julius-inspired vodka drink that got its name from the Laylow’s status as the 115th in the Autograph group of hotels.
Restaurant hours are 7 a.m. to 11 p.m. daily. The Laylow is at 2299 Kuhio Ave. Call 922-6600.
Sushi joins the menu
Wai‘olu, in the sixth-floor lobby of Trump International Hotel Waikiki, has introduced a sushi bar.
Traditional nigiri sushi and more contemporary maki, or rolled, sushi join the selection of tapas and specialty cocktails served at Wai‘olu.
Sushi bar hours are 5 to 10 p.m. Tuesdays through Saturdays. Call 683-7456.
A decade on stage
Stage Restaurant celebrates its 10th anniversary with a re-creation of the menu that chef Ron de Guzman and his culinary team served at the famed James Beard House in March.
Three appetizers precede a five-course meal that will highlight local ingredients such as Sweetland Farms smoked goat cheese, Big Island Heart of Palm, Kona lobster and a dessert including Hawaii-grown chocolate, vanilla and macadamia nuts.
Cost is $80, $120 with wine pairings.
The menu may be ordered through April 22. It was initially offered Tuesday through Saturday but has been extended to accommodate interest. Click here for reservations or call 237-5429.
New leadership at M.A.C.
M.A.C. 24/7 has a new chef de cuisine, Edmond Kwok.
Previously the restaurant’s sous-chef, Kwok will now oversee operations, including menu development, at the Hilton Waikiki Beach Hotel’s main restaurant.
Gary Manago, director of food and beverage for the Hilton, said Kwok’s roots in Chinese cooking will add a new dimension to the food at M.A.C. 24/7.
