Moanalua’s Jun Ho Won shot a 4-under-par 67 to take a two-stroke lead after Thursday’s first round of the David S. Ishii Foundation/HHSAA Boys Golf State Championship at Kaanapali Golf Course.
Won had consistent nines of 33-34 and is two shots ahead of Mid-Pacific senior Zack Kaneshiro, who had nines of 35-34 for a 2-under 69. Won and Kaneshiro tied for second in last year’s state event.
Punahou’s Rilen Loo is third at 71. ‘Iolani’s William Asai and St. Anthony’s Chad Lee are tied for fourth at 72.
‘Iolani leads the 10-team tournament at 294. Punahou is second at 301 and Moanalua third at 307.
The tournament ends today.
